Proud to be a GDST school
As the oldest surviving girls’ school in the UK, Redmaids’ High has always championed ambitious, confident and compassionate young women. Joining the prestigious Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) in 2025 strengthened that tradition, while opening even greater opportunities for our students, staff and wider community. For our families, it means the best of both worlds: the warmth, individuality and heritage of Redmaids’ High combined with the expertise, innovation and opportunities of a forward-thinking national organisation.
It is a hugely exciting time in the story of Redmaids’ High.
What is the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST)?
Founded in 1872, the Girls’ Day School Trust has spent more than 150 years pioneering girls’ education. Today, the GDST family includes 23 leading independent girls’ schools and 2 academies across England and Wales, united by a shared belief in the power and potential of girls.
The organisation is widely recognised for its leadership in academic excellence, girls’ well-being and educational innovation. Through research-led teaching, sector-leading pastoral care and a future-focused approach to learning, the GDST continues to shape conversations around how girls best learn, thrive and prepare for modern life.
What does the GDST means for Redmaids’ High students?
Joining the Girls’ Day School Trust expands opportunities for Redmaids’ High students far beyond the classroom. Students can take part in Trust-wide academic enrichment, leadership programmes (in particular the GDST LEAD), public speaking competitions, sports events, music and drama performances, STEM initiatives and creative collaborations with other GDST schools. The connection between the schools is powerful.
For teachers and staff, collaboration across the Trust also encourages continual professional development, innovation and the sharing of expertise, ensuring students benefit from the very best practices in girls’ education.
