Moving in to Year 4

In Year 4, we continue to set the bar high academically across our broad curriculum, offering our junior pupils the chance to build on experiences from Year 3 and develop key skills in all subjects.

Girls are still taught by their class teachers, with the continuation of specialist teaching in certain subject areas including Dance, Music, French, PE and Games.

With pupils fully settled in to our independent school, they’re now ready to hit the ground running and our focus for this year is to build on their confidence and enjoyment in learning. Girls are encouraged to think for themselves more when it comes to solving a problem, with the teacher’s support. As their learning develops, they start to become more resilient, and learn that making mistakes or experiencing setbacks is part of learning.

Year 4 pupils also start to have more responsibilities in wider school life, as they are now the oldest in the ‘lower school’. They will sometimes help look after Year 3 girls in sports, and they will take the lead in the annual lower school drama workshop performance. These are just a couple of ways that Year 4 girls are encouraged to take more responsibility within and outside of the classroom.

"Every day I look forward to playing in the playground with my friends and to getting taught by Mr Hayward who makes lessons really fun. I love going caving on some Fridays because I love challenging myself to do new and exciting things."
