IB Diploma: depth and breadth of learning

An exciting, internationally renowned, and academically rigorous course, preparing students to be global citizens.  

Here at Redmaids’ High Sixth Form, students can choose between studying A Levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. The IB is offered by 5,300 schools in 158 countries worldwide and is studied by 1.4 million students. Redmaids’ High School is one of only two places in Bristol where you can study the IB, and we have been offering it for over 10 years.

Since introducing the IB in 2008, our students have achieved excellent exam results. Not only do our girls have a 100% pass rate but they consistently meet or exceed their expected points score. Our IB graduates go on to achieve incredible things, studying at many top-ranking universities.

What is the IB Diploma Programme?

The IB Diploma is a challenging, yet highly rewarding two-year linear course. Students choose six subjects; three will be studied at ‘Higher’ level and three at ‘Standard’ level. Some of the subjects are compulsory, such as Maths, Literature, Science and a language. TheTheory of Knowledge’ aspect of the IB and a 4,000-word extended essay, allow students to develop skills that are highly valued in university, such as critical thinking, research and creativity.
