Life in the sixth form at private school in Bristol

Sixth Form life

We encourage our girls to work hard and play hard to get as much out of their Sixth Form experience as they possibly can. Not only will this help them become their own person, it will give them wonderful memories to look back upon.

The opportunities available at Redmaids’ High School are exceptional. Sixth Form life starts with a fun, team-building day in Gloucester and the chance to grow and develop, personally, professionally and academically, continue from there.

Our extensive Athena Programme is designed to intellectual inspire students beyond the curriculum. A range of opportunities include entering subject specific competitions such as national Maths Challenges, Linguistic Olympiads and Debating Competitions.

Girls can also opt to deliver a speech as part of our RED Talks programme, sign up for numerous external lectures, workshops and trips or write for the school's prestigious Academic Journal.

Getting involved

We stage a number of outstanding drama productions, which are open to everyone to audition for. We also have many opportunities for musicians to perform within the school, the UK and even in concerts abroad. For debaters, the Philosophy Society and public speaking competitions provide plenty of chances to shine. Girls are also encouraged to join in 'House' events, such as drama, music, dance and an extensive programme of sports competitions.

Good causes near and far

To help our girls develop a global awareness we offer travel to many places. These include curricular trips, overseas academic trips and community projects in developing countries. We have developed two unique overseas leadership opportunities which give students the chance to travel to Nepal (with Alumna Linda Cruse) or to Cambodia (with United World Schools).

Sixth Form students also get involved in the Prince's Trust 'Challenge 500' scheme - a team-building activity that is not only great fun, but also a positive experience that raises money for an excellent cause.

Growing up fast

The responsibility of being a role model is never taken lightly in the Sixth Form. Our girls take the lead. They initiate and run clubs for younger students and organise social and fundraising events.

That said, the contemporary, self-contained Sixth Form Centre gives the girls their own space. It has bright open-plan common areas, classrooms, a careers library and even its own Deli. It will give your daughter a taste of the independent education she can expect to experience at University.
