Girls may want to edit a magazine, enter public speaking competitions or arrange a fashion show. There are plays, choirs and concerts to perform in, 10-kilometre races to be run, short films to be shot, and radio programmes to be produced. More adventurous types can climb the Avon Gorge, teach at our link school in Cambodia or start a charity. More academically-minded girls can join a book group or run thought-provoking lectures for their peers. Your daughter may even want to start a club of her own – and we are on hand to help her.
She will be applauded when she does something well, but equally she will be encouraged to simply ‘have a go’, learning that failure holds no fear or stigma.
Sport
With first-class sports facilities on their doorstep our students enjoy a wide range of sporting activities at lunchtime, after school and at weekends. These are open to everyone and include Aerobics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Canoeing, Caving, Climbing, Cricket, Cross-country running, Dance, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Netball, Rounders, Swimming, Tennis and Orienteering. We are also registered with the National Schools Equine Association.
There is no shortage of competitive sport either, with an extensive fixture list against a wide range of schools across the region and in many county, regional and national tournaments.
You can find more details on our Sports micro-site.
Music
Our campus is always alive to the sound of music of one sort or another. Nearly 20 ensembles rehearse weekly, so your daughter can find the groove that suits her, from Chamber Choir and Musical Theatre Group to an A Cappella group, a Symphony Orchestra and a Swing Band. We also run specialist instrumental ensembles, one-on-one music lessons and our inclusivity even runs to a community choir, which includes parents, staff and alumnae.
The talented musicians at Redmaids’ High School give countless concerts every year at prestigious venues. We’ve appeared at St. George's Bristol, Bristol Cathedral and even the O2 Arena. Your daughter may also want to take part in our biennial music tours - the last one, to Barcelona in May 2018, was a tremendous success.
You can find more details about the range of opportunities available on our Music Curriculum page.
Drama
There’s always a drama going on at Redmaids’ High School – of a good kind. As well as Drama clubs and Stage School Productions, our girls take part in the annual Bristol Speech and Drama festival and have shone in many regional and national competitions. We also perform at other prestigious locations including Bristol’s Tobacco Factory Theatres and the world renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Redland Hall, our outstanding, new state-of-the art auditorium and performance space, allows us to make our excellent school shows even more grand!
