Religious Studies

In Religious Studies, we explore deep philosophical and ethical questions and challenge our students to be open-minded about the beliefs and practices of people from different cultural backgrounds.

Thought, debate and original thinking are stimulated through a variety of mediums, including the use of film, music, ICT, group work and role play. All the main world religions are studied in addition to units on Philosophy and Ethics.

Religious Studies is compulsory in Years 7 to 9 and is an optional GCSE in Years 10 and 11.

Enrichment and extra-curricular

We take students out of the classroom to visit local places of worship and invite speakers to school to talk about their personal faiths and beliefs.

A level and IB students attend conferences and webinars to enhance their studies and we enjoy many events at Bristol’s Festival of Ideas.

We run a lunchtime Junior and Senior Philosophy Club for students and we enter the annual Philosothon competition.
