Students gain a fascinating insight into issues in the UK as well as in newly emerging economies and lower income countries. Important global themes such as climate change, poverty, shifts in economic power and the challenge of using sustainable resources are also discussed.
The methodology of Geography equips pupils with a wide range of key skills, from data collection, analysis and presentation, numeracy, literacy and critical thinking, and brings together the art of communication with the scientific rigour and method of investigation. Such skills are pertinent well beyond the confines of the School!
All students in Years 7 to 9 study Geography and it is an optional subject in Year 10 when we follow the OCR syllabus.

Enrichment and extra-curricular
We organise local field trips to help students develop independent research and enquiry skills. We also take part in the annual World Wide Quiz, frequently placing high up the leader board!
In addition, we arrange overseas trips to places such as Iceland, to give girls the opportunity to see a variety of geographical wonders, such as boiling mud-pools, erupting geysers, glaciers, waterfalls and volcanoes first-hand.
Award-winning department
In 2019 our Geography Department received the Centre of Excellence with the Secondary Geography Quality Mark for the teaching and learning of Geography.
This prestigious award comes from the Geographical Association (GA).
