Drama builds confidence, teaches teamwork and helps students develop social skills. It is also great fun, so we provide plenty of opportunities for girls to perform throughout the year. All students enjoy drama, as part of the curriculum, in Years 7 to 9 and it is a GCSE option for Years 10 to 11.

We employ a wide variety of teaching methods such as teacher-in-role, group and pair work and we use a mixture of devised and scripted material. Students quickly develop an understanding of the skills, principles, techniques and vocabulary related to Drama.

Most lessons take place in our Performing Arts Centre where there are opportunities to learn about lighting and technical skills. In 2017 we opened Redland Hall, a new state-of-the-art performance space and auditorium that will host many of our incredible school plays and concerts.

Enrichment and extra-curricular

We encourage students to take part in extra-curricular drama clubs, and school productions. We also perform at the Tobacco Factory as part of the Schools Shakespeare Festival and organise performance trips to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival during the summer break.

Many students take private Speech and Drama lessons. They enjoy great success in their LAMDA examinations, in the annual Bristol Speech and Drama Festival and in regional and national competitions.
