Our Junior School pupils are climbing new heights thanks to a new playground officially opened yesterday.
Guest of honour Jim Hayward of Mendip Outdoor Pursuits also cut the ribbon on two new classrooms.
Mrs Brown, Headteacher, said: “We have worked with Mendip Outdoor Pursuits for many years, together developing in a whole generation of girls a love of adventure and outdoor learning.”
Mr Hayward, founder of the company in 1978, said: “The great outdoors is the ultimate classroom, stretching us physically and mentally and delivering learning that is directly relevant to what is taught through traditional curricular subjects.”
The new playground includes natural and artificial grassed areas for games, wooden climbing frames, a pirate ship, pagoda, tepees and a mini climbing wall, all surrounded by protective surfaces.
The new ground floor classroom opening onto the garden will accommodate a combined Year 1 and 2 group from September, while upstairs a similar sized classroom houses one Year 5 group.
