National finalists!

In their first week back at school, our Year 5/6 Science Quiz Team attended the semi-finals of the national Quiz Club Science Competition, hosted by Haberdashers' School in Monmouth.

Having earned their place in a nail-biting heat, this stage of the competition was no different. The girls' opponents were the winners from a number of South West heats and the standard was very high with QEH, Monmouth Boys and Redmaids' High Juniors all jostling for the top three spots.

The teams needed to have knowledge that far exceeded what is normally expected of 9 to 11 year olds with questions on topics such as the lunar satellites of the outer planets to the atomic symbol for cobalt. As Class Teacher Mr Hayward said, "The quiz really did cover a broad range of science!"

However, it was still all to play for by the penultimate question and the team kept their cool, earning a very strong second place, with a score that has secured them a place in the National Final!

For this, the girls will travel to the Oxford University Museum of Natural History on Friday 26 January to compete against schools from across the country.

A huge well done to Jemima, Matilda, Tara and Miranda and good luck for the final!
