Not deterred by the increasingly tense relations between the UK and Russia, 12 girls from Year 10 and 11 visited Moscow and St. Petersburg during the Easter holiday.
It was a jam-packed itinerary as Head of Russian, Mrs Ransom, explained, “In Moscow we visited beautiful Red Square with the iconic St.Basil’s Cathedral and had the chance to see Lenin in his mausoleum. We also had a guided tour of the Kremlin and Armoury and even caught a glimpse of the presidential helicopter taking off!
“We set off from Moscow by the overnight train, and woke up in the stunning city of St.Petersburg. We visited the Hermitage, Europe’s most impressive museum and art gallery and St.Catherine’s Palace, where we gained an insight into the lavish lifestyle of the tsars. We even had the opportunity to hear Maxim Vengerov, the world famous Russian violinist, performing at the St Petersburg Philarmonia.
“The girls also visited a Russian school where they tested their Russian speaking skills.
"Overall, the trip gave us the opportunity to see and experience Russia first-hand, to meet and engage with Russians and to deepen our understanding of Russian culture and history.”
