Active Travel Week at the Junior School

Scooting and cycling to Redmaids Junior School in Bristol

In the week before half term, we had a brilliant 'Active Travel Week' in our Junior School - organised by Mrs Baker!  The goal was to open the girls' eyes to other ways of getting to school through a range of fun activities, and reinforce the benefits for their own health, the environment and making the area around the school safer for all who use it.

The girls travelled in a 'walking bus', scooted and cycled their way to school, and thoroughly enjoyed an 'active travel breakfast'.  The end of the week saw the girls put their best foot forward by creating a parade of 'happy shoes' demonstrating their support for walking. Thank you to parents and pupils for supporting the initiative – as part of our bid to win our Silver Modeshift STARS award, having achieved our Bronze last year.

Senior school head teacher Mrs. Tobias is also proud to take this initiative forward by taking the lead in walking to school more regularly herself, and encouraged the senior school, in this week’s assembly to do the same.  We are of course ever mindful of our neighbours and are keen to help reduce pressure on the local roads network.
