While still in Year 10, Alex was selected by the UK German Connection organisation, to enjoy all-expenses-paid, two-week trip to Germany to further develop her language skills.
In order to enter, Alex had had to submit two pieces of written work – both in German – one on the subject of why she should be selected.
Having been chosen, in July 2017, Alex travelled to Ortenburg, near Passau in Bavaria along with 30 other students from across the UK. She stayed with a German family and spent two weeks learning about German culture and developing her German language skills.
“It was a fantastic experience”, said Alex, “I made lots of really good friends, would certainly like to return to Germany to live and work at some point.”
More recently, Alex shared her experiences with the Redmaids’ High Junior School. “Alex gave a wonderful presentation to the Year 5 and 6 students,” said Mrs Bell, Head of German. “She is a natural communicator, and delivered the talk, followed by a lively question and answer session, with real professionalism.
“She is a great ambassador for the German Department here.”
