Celebrations for Year 13

It was a day of celebrations at Redmaids' High as our A Level students collected an excellent set of results, reflecting success already achieved earlier this summer by our IB Diploma students.

Overall, 53% of entries were awarded the top A*A (A Level) or 7,6 (International Baccalaureate Diploma) grade, and 100% A*A grades were achieved across subjects ranging from economics and Russian, to Polish and art. A number of girls are now heading to Oxbridge, with eight securing places to study medicine.

One of the medics is former Head Girl Anjali, who joined the school from Burundi in Year 9, speaking very little English at the time. She achieved A*A*A and will go to Nottingham this autumn.

Also Zahra, who was joined by her older sister Fatima in celebration of her straight A results. Fatima left Redmaids’ High in 2015 with 43 points at IB and is currently studying medicine at Imperial College London. Zahra is now following in her footsteps by starting a medicine degree at Liverpool.

Bursary student Francesca, an accomplished musician who recently took part in a workshop with royal wedding soprano, Elin Manahan Thomas, was delighted today to receive A*AAB, securing her place to study aerospace engineering at Brunel University, London, on a £6,000 a year scholarship. Francesca said, "I am so happy about my results. I worked really hard and overcame some personal issues to get here. It was all worth it because I've got my first choice degree offer with a brilliant scholarship, which will make a huge difference."

This cohort also included the school’s first Oasis Brightstowe scholar. Yasmin, who is a talented artist and was a Head Almoner for the school, achieved A*AB to secure her first choice of philosophy at Durham.

Yasmin said, “Being here on a scholarship has been amazing. I have been given so many opportunities and I’ve made sure to take up every one of them!”

Thea and Molly, who came to Redmaids’ High in 2016 from maintained schools, achieved AAA and A*A*AA respectively. Thea will now study English at University College London and Molly will head to Durham to study maths.

Thea, who hosted a regular show on the school radio station, said, “Coming to Redmaids’ High for the last two years of my school education has truly opened up the world to me. The support from teachers and friends, the experiences I’ve had, the whole thing has just been amazing.”

Our IB Diploma results released in July achieved an impressive average point score of 38 out of a possible 45 - the global average is 29.

Isabel Tobias, Headmistress of Redmaids’ High said, “We are so thrilled for the achievements of our Year 13s this summer with many gaining the top grades of A*A at A Level and 7/6 in the IB Diploma.  But even more than that, it is wonderful to see our students, who come from many different backgrounds, going on to explore such a diverse range of interests.”

Sixth Form leader and Assistant Head, Jon Cooper said, “Our goal here is to develop the whole girl, helping them become global citizens, with limitless career options, who will carry on living life to the full. The successes we’ve seen here this summer suggest we are well on the way to achieving that aim.”
