Top GCSE Results Again Thanks to a Supportive School and Home Life!

Redland High School has had another impressive year for GCSE Results, with 63% of grades being the top A*/A mark

Redland High School has had another impressive year for GCSE Results, with 63% of grades being the top A*/A mark. In Latin every girl gained an A* grade and in Biology, Chemistry and Physics the pass rate was 100%. Physics also saw 91% gain an A/A*, complementing the 100% A* grades achieved at A Level last week. There was also a 100% pass rate in Classics, Spanish, Information and Communication, Art and Design, Textiles, Geography and Drama. Overall, 94% of pupils gained at least one A/A* grade in their results.

Of the cohort who sat their exams this year, over half have sisters who have also studied at Redland High, and many have parents with personal connections to the School too. Vonni Bentley, who today received 10 A* grades and 1 A, saw her sister Isabella off to Cambridge University to study Engineering last year after she graduated from Redland High Sixth Form with 5 A*s at A Level. Their mother, Helen Lancaster, was a valued governor of the school for many years.

The Crane family also had reason to celebrate as Daisy collected her results of 4 A*s and 6 As. Her older sister Sophie, who graduated last year and is now studying Medicine at Manchester and her younger sister Amy who is at Redland High Junior School came along for support, along with Dad, John and Mum, Mel, who is a Classroom Assistant at the School.

Daisy says, "Without the support of my family and my teachers here I don't think I would have made it through the exams! I am so happy to have got these results."

In Art, where an amazing 96% of students gained an A/A* grade, building on the 100% A/A* marks achieved at A Level last week, the Head of Department, Mrs Coleborn, is a Redland alumna. Both of her daughters attend the school and her eldest daughter Maya will be the last Head Girl of Redland High next year.

There were also celebrations for Nikita Iles, whose three sisters and aunt all went to Redland High, and whose mum runs the schools 'Friends' society. Nikita has today achieved grades that are in some cases two or three marks higher than her Year 7 baseline assessments had suggested, showing the value that Redland High can add to a young woman's education. Nikita is celebrating on holiday with her family today, including her sister Kelsey who graduated from Redland High last year and has gone on to an Apprenticeship in Accountancy.

Nikita says, "It is such a close community here, with small class sizes and teachers who really know your family. It has definitely helped me to achieve better grades than I thought I could."

Miss Ferro says, "In what has been a momentous year in Redland High's history, the achievements that we see here today can be attributed to ties of friendship between our girls and supportive partnerships between a pupil's home and school life. These strong relationships within the Redland High community have laid the foundations for such pleasing results."
