Redmaids’ High School shortlisted for national education award

Today, it has been announced that Redmaids’ High has been shortlisted in the 2018 Tes School Awards. These awards showcase the most outstanding individuals and institutions that the state and independent education sector in the UK has to offer. The School has been recognised for its international outlook.

In today’s fast changing, multi-cultural world where industry extends across borders and global trends and policy impact upon us all, an international outlook is increasingly important. The School’s many partnerships with charities across the globe, the humanitarian work carried out by students, staff and alumnae in places like Cambodia, Uganda and Nepal and the broad international focus of the curriculum all contributed to the shortlisting.

“Our heritage dates back to 1634, but our mind-set is very future-facing,” says Mrs Tobias. “We are a local school with a modern international outlook and I am delighted that this has been recognised by Tes. It is an honour to have made the shortlist for this prestigious national award.”

Mr Cooper, who heads up the School’s international strategy says, “At Redmaids’ High we help our students become agile thinkers, understanding diversity in the world around them. Our girls set up and support charities both home and abroad; they can choose from six languages; they organise and take part in networking events and conferences with people from across the world. A global view is woven into the day-to-day fabric of school life.”

The School was also the first in Bristol to introduce the International Baccalaureate Diploma as an option for Sixth Form students ten years ago, which they run alongside a successful programme of A Levels.

Tes editor Ann Mroz said, “It is wonderful to see such innovative ideas and best-practice emerging from our schools and teachers. We had a record year for entries and the standard was the best so far – all those shortlisted should be very proud: it’s an extraordinary achievement.”

The winners will be revealed at a gala awards evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on Friday 22 June 2018.
