Scaling great heights

Sixty girls from Years 3 to 6 have signed up for a short climbing course with Mendip Outdoor Pursuits.

The course runs over two sessions, and involves climbing at Sandford and Goblin Coombe during 'Activity Hour' on a Friday afternoon.

During the course the girls learn to climb and relay safely. Many have climbed before and the Mendip instructors were impressed with how independently the girls put on their own harnesses, and how the more experienced ones helped the newcomers.

"This type of activity provides an opportunity for girls to take risks, become robust learners, develop leadership skills and work in teams." said Mrs Brown, Headteacher. "We firmly believe this leads to extremely positive outcomes back in the classroom so are always delighted to see so many girls getting involved."
