The first week of term continued on a high with the official opening of our new assembly hall and performance space - Redland Hall - by one of our most celebrated alumnae, Professor Alice Roberts.
An author, broadcaster and evolutionary biologist, Alice unveiled a commemorative plaque and gave thought-provoking talks to the Junior School and Senior School about her archaeological finds and the evolution of humans and other species.
A student at Red Maids’ between 1984 to 1991, Alice acknowledged its merger with Redland High School saying: "I'm delighted to be helping to open Redland Hall, and to celebrate the start of a new era as these two brilliant Bristol schools come together."
The opening took place during a reception attended by many friends and supporters of the school including the current Lord Mayor Councillor Lesley Alexander. Our Head Girls spoke at the event, giving their view on how valuable such a space is for students' learning and fun.
The first day of term for Redmaids’ High Infant & Junior School also included excitement in the shape of mystery guest Naomi Wilkinson who presents a range of programmes on CBBC which are well-known to the girls. Her message: have a go and you might be surprised to find something completely new that you like.
Additional developments completed at the school include two new classrooms and an adventure playground at our Grange Court Road Infant & Junior School.
Furthermore, in July, the school purchased the 16.7-acre Cribbs Sports & Social Club which will in time replace our current off-site sports facility at Golden Hill.
