Orienteering season has started in earnest

Redmaids' High Orienteering Club (RHOC) were in action over the weekend, competing in a Schools' League event in Bristol.

28 girls (plus a number of parents) from the Senior and Junior Schools tackled surprisingly complex courses around the woodland and open grass of the Durdham Downs.

Navigating the indistinct parks, impassable thickets and some very stubborn goats, the team did superbly.

There were some excellent results, with Louisa, Phoebe and Alexandra all gaining maximum points in their courses. Also, well done to Matilda and Aliza who took part in their first solo runs on the Yellow and White courses respectively.

Every member who took part and completed their courses scored valuable points for themselves and the school, so well done everyone!

As Mr Hayward, Head of Orienteering in the Junior school explained, "This is a fantastic sport which combines map reading with running (or walking) through beautiful terrain, so we really encourage even more students and parents to get involved."

To take part, whatever your level of experience, contact Mr Hayward (Juniors) or Mr Brealey (Seniors) at school for more information.
