Keeping our infants safe on the roads

It’s never too early to start learning road safety and our Year 1 and 2 pupils have been leading the way recently with the six-week Pavement Professors scheme, endorsed by Bristol City Council.

Delivered by a team of experienced trainers, the children are taught about the safest places to cross the road, and learn the skills they need if they have to cross near parked cars or at junctions.

They begin with an introductory classroom session and then head outdoors onto the street where they watch correct behaviour being demonstrated, ask questions, practise crossing themselves and then explain to fellow pupils and the trainers how they did it.

The scheme also includes a workbook to be filled in afterwards, reinforcing what they have learned.

This term, Years 1 and 2 are also learning scooter skills while Years 5 and 6 are building on their cycle training by having their bikes security coded to enable tracking if lost or stolen.
