'BadMaids' judo success

Two teams of around 20 girls from Year 3 and above took part in the annual BadMaids' judo meet, this year held at Redmaids' High Juniors.

With lots of support from parents, siblings and friends, the girls threw themselves into unarmed combat under the watchful eye of Mr Delahay who coaches at both schools.

Determination, strength, balance and agility were all on display and many fights resulted in a draw with the girls so closely matched.

In the end, Redmaids' High successfully grappled, blocked and threw their way to retain the cup for another year.

Mrs Brown, Headteacher, said: "As ever, both teams battled fearlessly, with skill and mutual respect, leaving spectators in no doubt at how mentally and physically tough these girls are.

"Next week I will see many of the same girls in our after school dance class,  moving in a completely different manner but loving it just the same."
