Scholarships and bursaries

Our scholarships are available to young women who show true potential, a dedication to learning and a lot of ambition in any subject

Recognising talent

Here at Redmaids’ High, we recognise outstanding talent and achievement in many ways, one of them being through our Scholarship programme. Once registered for the school, any student at any senior year of entry will have the opportunity to become a scholar. For an academic award, selection will be based on exceptional entrance examination results. Applicants for Music and Sports awards will need to complete a separate form at the point of registration and a shortlist of candidates will be assessed on set days. All scholars will need to display true passion and talent for their subject to be considered.

During their time at Redmaids’, scholars will be given access to a range of opportunities, masterclasses, additional training and competitions in order to stretch and challenge them in their field of preference. In addition to this, for truly exceptional candidates, there may be a financial award made. Scholars play an important part in the school community, by sharing their enthusiasm and being an example to their peers.

Internal scholarships are available to those progressing to Year 7,  Year 10 and Year 12.

Sport scholarships

We award Sports Scholarships to students who show significant potential in one of the school’s main sports. They are likely to play at club and/or area level (including the school's A-teams for hockey or netball) and have the potential to play at regional level.

The deadline for applications is Monday 15 November. The assessment will take place on Friday 26 November.

Music scholarships

We award a Year 7 and Year 10 Major Music Scholarship offering discount of up to 50% off the general tuition fees and may include a contribution of the tuition on up to two instruments in school. A Minor Music Scholarship includes a contribution towards the tuition on up to two instruments in school and possibly also a reduction in the general tuition fees.

To be considered for these awards, your Year 6 daughter should play to Associated Board Grade 4 (or equivalent) – although she does not need to have passed any formal music exams as we assess potential as well as current level of performance. Your Year 9 daughter should be at Grade 6 (or equivalent).

The deadline for applications is Monday 6 December and auditions will be held on Friday 7 January.

The unique founding origins of Redmaids’ High mean we can offer a number of fully and partially-funded places. As a broad guide, most bursaries offer up to 50% discount on the fees, although we do have two fully-funded places available each year (see below).

The assessment of a family's means takes parents' income and the value of capital assets into consideration. More information on applying for a bursary is set out in the Bursary Policy.

Special awards (Year 7 only)

For those joining at Year 7, two 100% funded places – the John Whitson Award and the Florence Edith Rowbotham Award – are available.

The John Whitson Award is a means-tested, 100% scholarship given to a girl who can demonstrate academic ability in the Year 7 Entrance Examination and who would be unable to attend Redmaids' High School without this financial assistance.

The Florence Edith Rowbotham Award provides a 100% fully funded place. It is awarded at the discretion of the Head (on the basis of wider criteria) to a girl who has done well in the Year 7 Entrance Examination. Parents are invited to contact the school to discuss any special circumstances.

Head's awards

In addition to the awards above, we offer up to ten Head's Awards to girls joining Year 7 who excel in one area of the entrance exam, or who show particular potential.
