Community Spirit

Inclusivity is at the heart of our school; creating a deep sense of belonging that is shared by every single member of our school community. Whether it’s taking the time to celebrate each other’s cultures, following student-led guidance on how best to support each other’s faiths, or embracing the bright colours of National Pride Week, we are proud to be part of such an open-minded and inclusive community that is based on happiness, aspiration and support for others.
The Halo Code
As a Halo School, we proudly celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles within our community. By signing up to the Code, we pledge to ensure that no student or staff member experiences discrimination or disadvantage in their education or workplace based on how they choose to wear their natural hair. Culture Week
Culture Week is a hugely popular annual tradition for us. Throughout the week, we come together to celebrate diversity and discover what makes each culture so uniquely beautiful. Through external speakers, engaging workshops, REDTalks and native dress fashion shows, the week is a fantastic opportunity for us all to learn, connect and grow together. Marking National Dates

Every year we look forward to celebrating many national and international dates on our school calendar. National Pride Month, Neurodiversity Week and Children’s Mental Health Week are to name a few examples that we mark together, understanding the importance that this recognition and understanding has for so many members of our school community.

Student-Led Guidance

We also work with members of our school community to develop better understanding and support of different cultures and faiths. For instance, we recently partnered with Muslim students and their parents to develop guidance for our whole community to help better support and celebrate those around us who are taking part in Ramadan. Similarly, we have partnered with Chinese students and their families to learn how we can celebrate Chinese New Year as a whole school appropriately.

We have appointed a Partnership and Outreach Co-ordinator to lead this work. We are also part of the Bristol Education Partnership, which is a collaborative arrangement between local state and independent schools, St Brendan’s Sixth Form College, University of Bristol, University of the West of England and Bristol City Council to improve the outcomes of children and young people in the city.

Initiatives include offering sports resources or minibuses to local state schools and community sports teams, volunteer reading buddies from our Sixth Form student body, musical masterclasses and much more.
